In a monumental achievement, “Leo,” the action-thriller starring the iconic ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay, has stormed the Indian box office, crossing the incredible milestone of 100 crores within just two days of its release. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film continued its spectacular run by adding an additional 40 crores to its collection on the third day, accumulating a staggering total of 140.05 crores.
“Leo” made a thunderous entry into the box office, amassing an impressive 64 crores on its first day in India, leaving a trail of records in its wake. Notably, it surpassed the opening day collection of Rajinikanth’s “Jailer,” which had earned 44.5 crores earlier in the year. However, the second day witnessed a slight drop, with collections totaling 35 crores, marking a 45% decrease.
As “Leo” continues its box office dominance, the question on everyone’s mind is whether it can surpass the remarkable worldwide earnings of “Jailer,” which grossed over 600 crores globally.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and featuring an ensemble cast that includes Sanjay Dutt, Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Sarja, Mysskin, Sandy, and Gautham Menon, among others, “Leo” released in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi. The film enjoyed a 76.25% Tamil occupancy on Saturday, underlining its immense popularity.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala revealed that “Leo” experienced a drop in collection at the US box office on Saturday after its successful Wednesday debut. Nevertheless, the film has become the top-earning movie for both Vijay and director Lokesh in the USA, and it now ranks as the seventh highest-grossing Kollywood movie of all time.
As per Sacnilk’s reports, “Leo” has globally minted a staggering 212 crores. The film’s stronghold in Tamil Nadu is evident, with collections reaching an estimated 26 crores on the third day. Additionally, it’s making waves in other regions, with approximately 7 crores from Kerala, 5 crores from Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, and 5.50 crores from Karnataka.
“Leo” marks the second collaboration between Vijay and Lokesh, following the blockbuster success of “Master.” The film is a pivotal part of Lokesh’s cinematic universe of police procedurals, which includes hits like Karthi’s “Kaithi” and Kamal Haasan’s “Vikram.” With a promising future ahead, Lokesh is set to direct Rajinikanth in a film that has the potential to unite three of the biggest Tamil stars in cinematic history under the same banner.
The “Leo” phenomenon continues to dazzle both domestic and international audiences, reaffirming Vijay’s star power and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s directorial prowess on the global stage.
